Thickening agent for SMC/BMC composites based on unsaturated polyester and polyacrylic resins.

MagPro®  is a high active magnesium oxide produced in the form of powder by carefully controlled indirect calcination of milled brucite mineral (magnesium hydroxide).

MagPro®  is used as a thickening agent in the production of glass-reinforced SMC/BMC composites.

SMC/BMC composition is a mixture of various components: unsaturated polyester or polyacrylic resin, mineral fillers (chalk, flame-retardants), low profile agents, dyes and a thickening agent (chain extender). The thickening agent provides crosslinking and an increase in the viscosity of the composite.

Magnesium oxide for this application should have a high specific surface area and a stable particle size distribution.

The correct selection of thickening agent is extremely important in producing a high-quality composite without moulding flaws, cracks and undulations.

Two grades are available: MagPro® 150 and MagPro® 170. The right choice of the appropriate grade depends on the formulation and technological parameters.
